Jabberwocky
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought —
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
“And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!’
He chortled in his joy.
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
- Lewis Carroll
Crying
Crying only a little bit
is no use. You must cry
until your pillow is soaked!
Then you can get up and laugh.
then you can jump in the shower
and splash-splash-splash!
Then you can throw open your window
and, “Ha ha! ha ha!”
And if people say, “Hey,
what’s going on up there?”
“Ha ha!” sing back, “Happiness was hiding in the last tear! I wept it! Ha ha!”
- Galway Kinnell
What Is Pink?
What is pink? A rose is pink
By the fountain’s brink.
What is red? A poppy’s red
In its barley bed.
What is blue? The sky is blue
Where the clouds float through.
What is white? A swan is white
Sailing in the light.
What is yellow? Pears are yellow,
Rich and ripe and mellow.
What is green? The grass is green,
With small flowers between.
What is violet? Clouds are violet
In the summer twilight.
What is orange? Why, an orange,
Just an orange!
- Christina Rossetti
So I honestly have been so busy I just haven’t really planned this National Poetry Month very well at all.
I was initially going to do LGBT(Q?) poems, but I honestly never bothered to find any and to make it easier on myself because I’m going to be ridiculously busy with school for the next three weeks or so I decided to use thirty poems from one of my favourite anthologies of poetry: A Child’s Anthology of Poetry. I literally grew up reading this book so it’s very special to me and a lot of my favourite poems are in it.
On pain of being repetitive I will try not to use poems that I used last year, but all new ones!
So… let the fun begin! :)
National Poetry Month starts April! Yay!
And y’all know what that means, POEMS!
So if you want to get in on the poetry action you should go over and follow my other blog My Poetry.
I will announce the theme within the next couple of days :)
LISTEN!
The sign blares at me
Hot pink and green, bold black permeant marker writing
Asking a simple request…
So
I close my eyes and listen
And hear:
The sound of flip flops plodding along the pavement,
Draaag
I hear the sound of people laughing, talking, existing
Cars and distant traffic, moving through the city
I feel connected
Peaceful here
I understand that this is what I need now
Space and the sounds of a new world
I wish you’d understand.
I want my words to flow like water,
and kiss each other as they move along the page.
I want them like jumping koi,
lucky, but underdetermined.
I want words in black and white,
but my pictures painted in watercolours.
Sea green takes over
the forest heavy with it
I’ve wandered far

Plain white clean neat flat is destroyed
And the
Folded creased colourful shape texture bird emerges.
